Before the draft workshop, a one-to-two-page annotated bibliography (three scholarly sources minimum), with a working thesis statement at the top, is due by class time on Wednesday, February 13th. An annotated bibliography is a list of sources, given as full MLA-formatted entries, with a brief note under each entry explaining how you plan to utilize that source.

Thesis: Online shopping has increased and changed the way people shop. Even though many people think online shopping is convenient, Amazon should limit online shopping because it will bring social issues and caused the effect of people.
The first scholarly source is talking about online shopping is making people’s body weak. As the upsurge Internet and online shopping, more and more people choose online shopping and stay at home for a long time. According to the article, “Online shops may offer the convenience of not having to carry heavy bags home from the shops, but that is ruining our muscles”(Downey). As we all know, online shopping can help us avoid long lines and be more convenient, but it also forces people into inactivity, especially young people. Most users of online shopping are young people who choose convenient online shopping because of their academic and work. However, it makes people become lazier. They don’t even go out on holidays, but sleep at home for a long time or sit and play computer games which will make our body weak. I think this source can use in my argument as evidence that online shopping increasing people’s health problems. Many people know that the biggest feature of online shopping is a convenience, but they may not think this convenience is to reduce the exercise way. So I think this source can be applied to my argument.
The second source is about online shopping cause many of America’s store closing and people lose their job. With the development of online shopping, more and more people choose shopping online. This has led to many stores sales decline, which they can not continue to operate and had to close. “Since the closings mean that retail, which employs about 10 percent of all working Americans, is shedding jobs at a rate that dwarfs either of those”(America’s). Actually, work is the main way people sustain their lives. But many stores are closed due to online shopping, which makes people lose their jobs. This show that online shopping has a serious impact on people’s employment opportunities. My thesis is online shopping should be limited because it will bring social issues and caused the effect of people. And this article can be a source to support my thesis because online shopping is actually caused store close and lack of employment opportunities. At the same time, the data in the article can prove my points and convince the readers for my argument.
The third source introduces the importance of online shopping and the advantages of online shopping. Many people prefer to shop online and even buy products from several brands and companies that they can’t find or buy in their home country. Many people believe the online shopping is more convenient, however, they have this knowledge is because they lack experience in online shopping. The article mentions several reasons why that the customers prefer online shopping, such as convenience, can send gifts more easily, price comparison, no crowds and no need to travel. These reasons sound very appealing, but it also shows its shortcomings. I can use these points as my counterargument. For example, many people said online shopping is the convenience, but we can not promise the product will be good and suitable. Such as the cloths size not fits, and even some of the goods will have defects and people cannot use. These rebuttals can make the reader more convinced and change their original point of view, so I chose this source for my argument.

You have chosen an interesting and timely topic. Your thesis is still vague about what kinds of issues / harm online shopping causes, but in your comments I see that you mean that it lowers people’s physical activity, contributing to an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle, and also that it is causing brick-and-mortar stores to close. As far as your addressee, I am not sure that you can argue with Amazon itself, since that is their business model. Why would Jeff Bezos limit his own profits? It seems to me you would have to be asking for some governmental regulations to be placed on online shopping, and so you should write to a public representative (Secretary of Commerce?). Also, you should try to be specific about what kind of limit you want. Be ready to oppose the argument that you are merely holding on to the past, since online and electronic solutions to our problems have become almost totally identified with “progress” today. We could talk again after you have chosen your audience–probably you have already by now.
About your MLA formatting, you should add the accessed dates at the end of each entry for online sources, and also make the “Work” at the top plural (“Works”). Otherwise, your entries look perfect.
